Yahoo closes User created Chat rooms

In an unannounced move Yahoo! has shut down all its user created chat rooms. Yahoo was known for its wide variety of User Created rooms where you could chat about anything. But chatters today attempting to log onto the chat and create of find a user room were greeted with this message:

“The ability to publish user-created rooms in the public Yahoo! Chat directory is currently unavailable. We are working on improvements to this service to enhance the user experience and compliance with our Terms of Service.”

The Yahoo! Chat rooms were well known for the number of sexually explicit rooms and rooms where child predators roamed looking for victims. The web site PervertedJustice.com was know to prowl the chat rooms looking for child predators and then publishing copies of the chats on their web site. Law Enforcement also used the rooms to find suspects in child pornography and child predator cases.

The question is where will all the chatters, both legal and illegal go? Maybe IRC (Internet Relay Chat) will see an upswing. Or other chat services such as AOL or MSN. Internet chatters have several others to choose from.

Yahoo! Has in the past received thousands of complaints on the content of their rooms and suggestions such as moderators were made, but fell on deaf ears. It will be interesting to see what they do to the Chat rooms and what it holds in the future for the frequent users of their service.

I thought yahoo chat and yahoo groups were merged together a couple of years ago? I actually didn't know that the chat portion still existed.

~Just an added note to this...Yahoo has been a mess for weeks anyway. Usually this time of year Yahoo servers can't handle the increase of users when school is out..and they take forever fixing anything anyway.
~Just a note of precaution - there has been an " Official Yahoo " email popping up in many yahoo email accounts. I dont open yahoo mail..this email is a virus and immediately shuts down your computer ..even with Firewalls and top anti-virus's running. It is fixable, but not that easy. These emails Topics range from " Your account has been terminated " to " Your password has been changed "

Any info yahoo has to offer can be found in yahoo. Not everyone even opens mail accounts.
