Targeted raids, failed attacks take a toll on terrorists

TIKRIT, Iraq – Two terrorists were killed and 12 others captured during a series of unrelated events throughout northern Iraq Feb. 8.

The day started with an early morning raid near Baqubah by Iraqi troops supported by Task Force Band of Brothers Soldiers from the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. The mission was aimed at capturing specific individuals and disrupting terrorists’ activities in the area. Six of the targeted suspects were captured.

Two terrorists were killed in a failed attack against an Iraqi patrol north of Baqubah. The terrorist detonated an IED as the patrol passed and then attacked with automatic weapons. The Iraqi Soldiers held the attackers at bay, and a patrol from the 3rd HBCT soon arrived and added their lethal firepower, killing two of the gunmen. Three Iraqi Soldiers were wounded in the fight and taken to a local hospital.

Soldiers from the 3rd HBCT also detained two men near Balad after a tip about an IED. The troops searched the area and found the IED and two spools of electrical wire. A search of the suspects’ nearby home revealed more IED materials and other contraband.

Four men were detained near Samarra during a raid generated by a tip to Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team. The target of the raid, a well-known terrorist in the area, was captured along with three of his accomplices.

The steady evolution of Iraqi units, combined with the well-honed skills of coalition forces is making life difficult for terrorists in northern Iraq. Local citizens continue to gain confidence in their security forces and are providing more information, creating a combination of growing lethality to the terrorists’ ability to wage war against the Iraqi population.

I'm curious where you get all your information from. I'm not doubting it, just curious and there are no links.

No problem, I know your not doubting me, I am not the main stream media.

I get my stuff from several different sources. The Department of Defense Press feeds (I am a member of their press release group), The U.S. Army media releases, DVIDS (Digital Video & Imagery Distribution system), Al-Jezzera, the Main stream sites (CNN, ABC, FOX), www.uruknet.info, and others. Also e-mails from my buddies that are on the ground there (they tell me when to look for good stuff coming out).
