Anything to cast a bad light on the US and its efforts...

The difference between the MSM, the Defense Department Press release and what people would really like to know.

Here is a AP story as reported in the local paper this morning:

Blast at Iraqi market kills 17

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A suicide truck bomber attacked a crowded market in Tal Afar late Tuesday, killing at least 17 people and wounding 35 in a city cited by President Bush as a success story in battling insurgents.

The bombing occurred after incoming Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said he had almost finished assembling a Cabinet, the final step in establishing a national unity government. U.S. officials had predicted insurgents would step up attacks to try to block the new administration.

U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad said al-Maliki would soon launch a four-part plan to restore order by securing Baghdad, Basra and eight other cities, promoting reconciliation, building public confidence in the police and army and disbanding sectarian militias.

The truck bomber struck about 8:30 p.m. as shoppers in Tal Afar were scurrying to finish their purchases before closing, according to police Col. Abdul-Karim Mohammed, who gave the casualty figures.

The director of the city hospital, Saleh Qado, said 20 people were killed and 70 wounded, and that U.S. Army medics provided emergency treatment at the scene before loading the injured into ambulances.

Lt. Col. Ali Rasheed of the Interior Ministry said the main target may have been a police station within the market area of the city, 260 miles northwest of Baghdad.

…..there is more but it is not needed to make my point…

OK so the AP makes a brief mention of the US Army giving some aid.

Here is the DOD press release on the same bombing:

TIKRIT, Iraq – A terrorist bomb detonated in a crowded area of Tall Afar May 9 shortly after 8 p.m., leaving at least 16 Iraqi civilians dead and 134 others injured.

Iraqi Army units and Tall Afar emergency services immediately responded and began transporting victims to the Tall Afar Hospital. As the numbers of casualties mounted, the overflow was diverted to coalition medical facilities.

Task Force Band of Brothers Soldiers from the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division treated more than 60 of the victims.

Twenty-four of the 60 victims treated by U.S. medics were critically injured and were flown by coalition aircraft to the combat surgical hospitals in Mosul and Tikrit for more advanced care.

My Comments:

Why doesn’t the AP report say anything about the fact that the US Army medics treated 60 and then flew the most serious to US Medical facilities for advanced treatment??? Because it shows we are really helping out when we can? Because its good news and reflects well on our military? Because it shows how rapid our response to these types of incidents can be and what an impact our response has?

Here try this: my version.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A suicide truck bomber attacked a crowded market in Tal Afar late Tuesday, killing at least 17 innocent civilians and wounding 35 others.

The truck bomber struck about 8:30 p.m. as shoppers in Tal Afar were trying to finish their purchases before closing, according to police Col. Abdul-Karim Mohammed, who gave the casualty figures.

The director of the city hospital, Saleh Qado, said 20 people were killed and 70 wounded,  reports from the US Army stated that Army Medics treated 60 of the most serious victims and had 24 of those flown to US military treatment centers for advanced treatment and care.

Lt. Col. Ali Rasheed of the Interior Ministry said the main target may have been a police station within the market area of the city, 260 miles northwest of Baghdad.

Hmmmm not bad… if I do say so myself…

If by "disbanding sectarian militias" they mean wiping them from the face of the earth, I'd have to agree. Bringing these people into the fold would be as reasonable as keeping the sunni-dominated military in power as many idiot retired military folks keep whinging about.

Rule by bomb and gun is the problem in Iraq, not the solution. Yet what they always want to do is sit down with the people who kill the most and find out what is troubling them. If you want a healthy civilian government you simply can't allow people who kill innocent people to decide what your policies will be.

If the MSM is guilty of anything it is passing on the propaganda excuses for every act of murder committed by these wastes. I'm afraid that the only solution for the problems in Iraq is the total destruction and re-integration of areas that refuse to accept the new government. Then, they can see to their interests in the voting booth, instead of soliciting help from Iran and others who simply want a destabilized and easily abused Iraq.

This is a great topic. You made some great points. I actually find very little factual reporting. Everything has a spin on it. What amazes me is how much the headline can change your perception of the story. I live a few miles west of Fort Worth. The Fort Worth paper is liberal leaning and the Dallas paper is conservative leaning. They will both have the exact same wire stories but the titles they chose highlight completely different facts and it skews your perception of the article.

Yes, they do love the non-sequitor, don't they? But only if it makes their political point. Is there anyone alive who doesn't see through this by now?

It is simple... The MSM is the willing propaganda mouthpiece of the bacteria. They should be given the same respect we would give anyone working so hard to bolster the side of the terrorists... that is.. NONE!
