Are they turning on each other now??

Even as many in the media and other news sources are telling us that the “surge” may not be working fast enough or to the extent that it was expected to, it appears that the terrorist and Sunni iraqi’s think something is happening.

It seems that Iraqi’s, specifically Sunni’s in the al-Anbar Province are beginning to take part in getting rid of al-Qaeda. It seems that the members of two Iraqi Sunni tribes (the Abu Dhiyab and the Kartan al-Jazirah tribes) have had enough of al Qaeda and are recommending that they leave Iraq as the al-Qaeda’s involvement I Iraq has harmed the interest of Sunni’s in Iraq.

A statement from the web forum in question includes, "In this forum, I urge al-Qaeda to hasten in getting the Arab Muslim mujahideen who belong to al-Qaeda out of Iraq before it is too late because the situation in Iraq does not look promising for the mujahideen. Sheikh al-Zawahiri must hasten to get the mujahideen out immediately because what is coming is more dangerous to al-Qaeda in Iraq; that is not because of the Americans nor because of the Iranians and the rejectionists. Instead, it is because of the Iraqi Sunni tribes and their sheikhs" (http://www.islammemo.cc, March 8). I take this to mean that al-Qaueda thinks that it may be losing and its time to get out because the Sunni’s are beginning to work with the Iraqi Government or Coalition forces. Now this may very well be propaganda posted to deter al-Qaeda, but either way its good news.

Re: Sunnis and Al Qaeda.

I am reminded of the lady from Niger.  The Sunnis are the lady.

Is this something you wrote or a copy/paste?

I saw this story in the paper on the weekend. It's definitely great news. Anything which shows Iraqis banding together for any reason is a good thing, and at least this purpose is at least partly in western interests.
