What would happen and what would we do??

I would like to pose a question to everyone and see what your responses would be.

What would happen if 1 week before the election some Al-Queda Terrorist kidnap 10 American Women and 10 American children here in the states and say that they will behead them if Bush is re-elected to the white house. What would be America's response? Would people cave in and vote based on fear and loathing and hence give the terrorist what they want, or would people vote the other way just to spite them regardless of the hostages well being? This would be a tragic and terrible event and I for one am not sure what would happen. I would not change my vote, but I know there would be those out there that would just for that reason.

What would you do and what do you think would happen? Would they kill the hostages anyway?

most people will realize the terrorists are full of it and vote the way they were planning to. the worst 1% of republicans on the internet will post how voting for kerry will be a vote for bin laden. fate of the hostages is in the air, some hostages have been saved or released, many have not.

My personal opinion is that they make all their videos at the same time. I don't think they wait to behead them, I think they just wait to release the second video.

I think in the case you suggest I don't think Kerry would want to win that way, and if he accept the results of that election, I think Bush could contest it heavily. I don't think anyone would trust the terrrorists enough to change their votes. You think people with the ability to behead someone wouldn't tell a lie? They aren't out to change the world, they are out to behead people. The terrorist cause is terrorism. They don't stop their habits, even when they get their way.

I will have hard time, but if it was my brother that was kidnapped in Iraq, I would tell US government not to negotiate with terrorists. It will give them creditability, and they will do again, and again. I don't want to be one that caused hundreds of people kidnapped and killed as result of my brother being released.

Yes. It's a harsh view.

Reply By: MuggazPosted: Thursday, June 24, 2004Let me put it to you this way...Terrorist release a Statement to Al-Jezeera - if Bush is defeated, all hostile activities in Afghanistan will cease... The PLO will call a cease fire, and Osama will recall the Jihad...They both aren't going to happen...so be quiet... hypothesising is pointless.

Excuse me, who made you the moderator of what I can ask or post, I think the "be quite" should be directed at yourself, if you have nothing constructive to add then don't bother answering.

As for the subject of the post, the main point is would the terrorist be able to alter our election with threats, would the American people cave in as a group, or stand up and spite the terrorist just to make a point?

I think the American people would vote to spite the Terrorist.

The election will be called off my the President. Get those hostages out and then the American citizens would vote in peace.

I think if it were 10 days before the election the vote would swing to Bush's favor because when Americans get angry they vote the incubent in. However, if it were July 4th, I think anger by November would be replaced by despair and it would work the opposite way because by then we would think "the President can't protect the people so the President must be replaced."
I don't think they would call off the election, no matter when it happened, and the victims lives wouldn't be worth much in any case.

Not that they haven't probably already thought about it, but maybe we shouldn't be giving them any new ideas.............

I would personally organise a crack team of SAS hitmen to rescue the hostages, commanded by myself of course. We wouldn't need those bloody Navy Seals fellows, they would just get in the way. I would use my experience of SAS generalship to save the women and children, I would then become even more of a cult figure than I am now.

I think it would backfire. It might place into the minds of Americans that not voting for Bush is submitting to the terrorists, and only the most radical liberal would treat that as a good thing.

I wholeheartedly agree.  They abduct people with no intention of releasing them...they say that they will if their demands are met, but they know damn well that they're not going to.  It's a game...to try and shame people.  They say "well, had you met our requests this wouldn't have happened, ergo this is your fault"  That's crap.  Look at the Korean gentleman's execution..they had agreed to allow more negotiation time, but went ahead and beheaded him before the deadline had expired.

They cannot be trusted.  Bottom line.  And I think the American public are getting wise to their game and would spite the terrorist as well.

In order to discourage future Terrorist activity to control USA elections, you'd have to vote against the terrorist wishes.

If it were up to me, I'd tell them if they killed them I would nuke every holy place and major city in the middle east.

That's absurd. I will not let terrorist demands dictate my vote either way, and frankly, I question the patriotism of anyone who feels that I should.
