This is my personal view and comments on the issues and events that I feel a need to talk about or express my view. You don't have to agree, but lets carry on a adult, discussion and maybe you will see it the right way, mine. ;)
I love this guy...

Bill Cosby gave another speech last night that I think is one of the best ones I have heard in a long time when it comes to the "stop blaming the white man" types. I am so sick of hearing "it's the white mans fault" "the white man is keeping the blacks down" and on and on and on that it is refreshing to see that some blacks themselves are beginning to see the real problem, the outlook of the young black generation. And the parents that are raising them. Here are a few excerpts from the speech:

"There is a time, ladies and gentlemen, when we have to turn the mirror around,"

"Let them talk! What are they saying that is different from what their grandfather said? What are they doing or trying to do to us that their grandfathers didn't try to do to us? But what is different is what we are doing to ourselves,"

"Let me tell you something, your dirty laundry gets out of school at 2:30 every day. It's cursing and calling each other 'nigger' as they're walking up and down the street. They think they hip -- can't read, can't write -- 50 percent of them,"

"The more you invest in that child, the more you are not going to let some CD tell your child how to curse and how to say the word 'nigger.' This is an accepted word. You are so hip with 'nigger,' but you can't even spell it,"

Those are just some of the comments. He basically said stop blaming others and start blaming yourself for not parenting and trying to better yourself. In his words "the projects were built for you to move in, move up, and then MOVE OUT."

I couldn't agree more. Having worked in predominantly black neighborhoods for many years I can say the predominate attitude among the young blacks was one of everyone owes me something, I am being repressed, I am being held back. Stop crying and start trying to better yourself. Not all black young men can play basketball for a living or football. Get off the corner and into school, you might actually make something of yourself.

You go Bill Cosby. You are a refreshing breath of air to a stagnate culture that is self destructing.

I heard some excerpts from his speech this morning, and I think that what you said above is, indeed, the gist of it....and that it can apply to parents of all races.....we need to be responsible, and not let the media and peers raise our children for us.

I couldn't say it any better than Poetmom just did.

Absolutely. I hope people (of all races) take Bill's words to heart. I think if they do that a lot of the problems in this country will start to vanish.

I think it's great that he's asking his own people to be accountable ...

Thanks Joe....I see a lot of my kids friends/classmates who seem to be heading down what I would consider the wrong path, and it saddens me...

I swear...someone needs to give these assholes a swift kick in the rear.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Takes a lot of sack for Bill to say it. I think it applies to everyone.

I'm really starting to like Bill Cosby (not that I had a problem with him before).
