This is my personal view and comments on the issues and events that I feel a need to talk about or express my view. You don't have to agree, but lets carry on a adult, discussion and maybe you will see it the right way, mine. ;)
The beginning of hopefully the end.

Yesterday was a historic day in Afghanistan. And you heard nothing about it on the news. An Afghanistan unit is paving the way to secure their own country by becoming the first unit in Afghanistan history to transition to an independent state of security and to become self-sufficient. They are no longer relying on support from coalition forces to either train or fight the war on terrorism in their area. The 2nd Kandak, 2nd Brigade, 205th Corps, of the Afghan National Army became the first unit to become completely self-sufficient in their fight to become self-reliant. At a ceremony at Camp Eagle, Zabul Province, Afghanistan a ceremony was held celebrating the independence of this new fully functional Army unit.

While a single Army unit may not seem like much to some in a country that has a long history of corruption, infighting, tribal warfare, and other issues it prevented them from having a professional fighting force they now have their very first highly trained, well-equipped, motivated, and ready to protect the people military unit.

Hopefully this trend will continue from now into the future allowing the coalition forces to slowly disengage from actively participating in the security of the Afghanistan people and concentrate more on the finding and eliminating the terrorist and Taliban and fighters in the areas. If you would like to see a video of the commissioning of this unit you can do so on my YouTube channel "3rdID8487" by clicking on the link above.

Will a single Army unit may not seem

It does seem to be much when you understand (as you do) the significance of the milestone!  May it be the first of many!

I appreciate this achievement as you do ... but am not sure what independence means here besides the potential of working without direct allied support. This concept of defending oneself is quite restrictive (beyond reason IMO) as we seem hard pressed to grant this to our own forces in harms way ... so I have to question what this really means. I just hope this is the beginning of the end so our troops can come home without all the political posturing. Without a strong and conscience military, they are done for… so they have my best wishes too. There has to be a start, lets hope this is it.
