This has got to piss off the anti-war group...

April 26, 2005 – The highest-ranking military official in the United States said today the coalition is "definitely winning" against insurgents in Iraq.
Air Force Gen. Richard B. Myers said all the trend lines in Iraq show progress. The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff spoke during a Pentagon press briefing along with Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld.

The chairman said that progress is measurable on the political, economic and security fronts. The Iraqis have held elections and are forming a government, he said. "It, by all reports, looks like it's going to be one that involves all sects and ethnic groups in Iraq, so it will be a balanced government, which gives you some hope that when they get into the development of their constitution, that that's going to be a good process," he said.

The insurgents have very little stock in Iraq, Myers said. Many local citizens are turning in the insurgents. He said that it was local Iraqis who turned in the 10 men arrested for shooting down an Mi-8 chopper that killed 11 people April 21.

"Almost any indicator you look at, the trends are up," he said. "So we're definitely winning."

Rumsfeld reinforced Myers' statements, but emphasized that it is the Iraqis and not the coalition that will ultimately defeat the insurgents.

"The Iraqis will do it not through military means solely, but by progress on the political side, and giving the Iraqi people a sense that they have a stake in that country; that they're going to be protected by a piece of paper called a constitution, for the first time in their lives; and that that paper will protect them and, therefore, they are willing to stay together as a single country and have reasonable confidence that their rights and their circumstance will not abused by any of the other elements in the country," the secretary said.

Economic progress will work against the insurgents, especially when the Iraqi people see clearly that the insurgents are actively working to retard economic growth and destroy the infrastructure.

"The Iraqis will prevail in the insurgency also because over time, it will become clearer and clearer that the insurgents have no plan; they have nothing other than killing people," Rumsfeld said. He said the insurgents are simply interested in power and returning the Iraqi people to the "ideal" life of the Caliphate, or single Islamic rule.

Finally, the Iraqis will prevail against the insurgency "because the insurgents are a mixture of unlikes," Rumsfeld said. The former regime Baathists just want power back. The terrorist followers of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi want to turn the clock back to the Middle Ages. The criminal element has still other objectives. "At some point, there will be a division," Rumsfeld noted.

Myers said there remain many challenges ahead, and combating an insurgency takes a long time. He said the coalition and Iraqi government must remain patient and steadfast against the enemy.

For those who recall General Westmoreland's promises and stated 'facts' that the US was winning in Vietnam, there's no explanation needed. For those like Shadowman here, who are rather inept when dealing with reality, there is this link to check out.

The US is winning when it's not winning if you know what I mean.

RH - How about saying something about the contents and substance of the article instead of just attacking the idea that maybe, contrary to your wishes, the US is actually accomplishing something. You see I can see through your anger to the true reason post. You just hate the US and what it stands for. You still have not answered my reply and request to you in my other article so I will ask it again here:

Here is my response to your previous attack on my blog - you can read it where I posted it, where you posted a "response" - (in reference to http://shadowwar.joeuser.com/articles.asp?AID=73324)

RH, your arguement is fundamentally flawed. If the Chinese invaded I doubt they would let us vote to elect our own leaders. Or install our own governement and have our own police patrol the streets. They also would more than likely not let us have our own army. All of which is happening in Iraq. In addition if people started blowing up my own countrymen I would also not need money to turn them in.

And what public school did you go too? What part of "the Iraqi citizen told the soldiers" is not the same as "turned in by Iraqi's". You statement doesn't make sense. Also you forgot it was more than one "several other local residents confirmed the first tip and showed the soldiers where the terrorists lived". Also where in this does it say they got money for what they did?

You see your so overwhelmed by hate of the US or G. Bush and blinded by ignorance that even plain old facts and information can not break through your clouded shortsightedness. RH wake up, look at whats happening and be glad it is. Be glad for the Iraqi's who now are beginning to police their own, working for a better country. Would you rather have Sadam back in power? Why are you not addressing the fact most Iraqi's are glad for the change and look forward to the future now? More and more are signing up for their police forces and Army. The Iraqi Army now outnumbers the US Troops on the ground. Would the Chinese allow that to happen? I doubt it.

Let me guess, you hate America, and hate us because your not one of us? Or you are and your a sore loser of the last election? Let me guess your French? Or German? You see all those things have something in common. They can't stand it when the US actually accomplishes something as it makes all the retoric they spew pointless. You see we are not as evil as you would have us be. Americans would much rather have peace, but when we are at war we are at war.

Now if you care to read negative stuff go elsewhere and leave me and my fellow optimist alone. In addition I have been very tolerant of your post, unlike you of mine. That should show you who has the problem here, and I'll give you two guesses who that is, and its not me, and your first guess doen't count.

If Reiki House actually had a positive thought about Iraq and the successes going on there, it would cause an aneurysm!!

Reiki would rather see 1000 dead Americans than 1 free Iraqi. Anything for the negative propaganda.

Keep up the good articles ShadowWar!!!

Hey ParaTed2k, thanks for the encouragement. But RH really doesn't bother me. I just finished lookin gover his list of articles and I have to say.. Whoa! What a misreable way to exsist. His out look on things is so negative that I wonder why he feels compelled to bother to get out of bed in the morning. He seems to be a very negative and unhappy person, and his postings reflect it. I do have one question though, why would he not post what country he is from in his profile? Hmmm. Either he is from the US and ashamed of it (hence my recommendation for him to relocated to some other country he finds more appealing. Or he is not from the US and that would explain his hatered of us, he is envious of our living standards and great things our country can do. When your the big boy on the block, the other kids get jealous. I will waste no more time on him though as I have better and more positive things to do with my time. Have a nice miserable life RH, I feel sorry for you and will pray for you.

More to come on the Positive things going on ...
