May 2, 2005 – Afghan National Police captured six insurgents today while on a joint patrol with members of the U.S. Army's 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, outside a small village north of Kandahar.

ANP forces were leading a patrol to the village when they were attacked by an unknown number of insurgents. The police returned fire and the insurgents attempted to flee. As the insurgents fled, the police captured six people.

"Every day the Afghan National Police, Afghan National Army and the Afghan Security Forces conduct operations that make Afghanistan safer and more secure," said U.S. Army Brig. Gen. James G. Champion, Combined Joint Task Force 76 deputy commanding general. "Today's incident is a perfect example of the ANP taking the lead in the fight for their nation's freedom and stability. What happened clearly shows that Afghan forces and the Afghan people are sending a clear message to the insurgents that violence and oppression will not be tolerated."

The Afghan police and 2nd Battalion are continuing their operation in the area to deny insurgent forces a safe haven.
