Afghanistan, June 19, 2005 – An unprovoked attack on a coalition patrol today left 15 to 20 militants dead in Afghanistan, U.S. officials said.

The patrol reported coming under small-arms and rocket-propelled-grenade fire, which pinned the unit down northwest of Gereshk, in Helmand province. U.S. airplanes and attack helicopters engaged the enemy.

Initial battle-damage assessments indicate 15 to 20 enemies died and an enemy vehicle was destroyed, according to a news release from Combined Forces Command Afghanistan.

"When these criminals engage coalition forces, they do so at considerable risk. We will close with and destroy those that stand against Afghan and coalition forces at every opportunity," U.S. Army Lt. Col. Jerry O'Hara, a spokesman for Combined Joint Task Force 76, said. (Gotta love it, "they do so at considerable risk", thats putting it mildly!..LOL)

No coalition personnel were injured in the incident, officials said. (Another good thing!!) Site Meter

I guess they reckon there's something to be gained from being slaughtered like that. They are famous now you know! Not everyone gets to be a statistic.

Over 1700 Americans have become a statistic or does that count? Many had inadequate body armor or experienced ammunition shortage or does that matter?

Supporting the troops means supporting them all the way and demanding the best all the way around instead of the pseudo-bravado noticed here. I would also imagine you will be petitioning the DOD and DVA to provide the best care for wounded GIs instead of the current cutbacks limiting care/compensation in the DOD and shutting down DVA hospital wards.

Knew we could count on you when it mattered.

OK Khesanh,

First and formost get your number right, 1380 something have been killed in combat in Iraq, NOT 1700! That is a propigated purposful mistatement. Your geting your numbers from the mainstream media, crap they can't even get that stuff straight. The others that add up to the often quoted 1700+ are from accidents, falls, injuries and illnesses, not combat.

Second, I am a disabled Vet myself. If anyone knows about how the DVA works, its me. I also assist other injured and wounded vets in filling their request for treatment, help them submit paperwork, and go with them to talk to the DVA. All for free. WHAT DO YO DO? SO get off your high horse about who supports who. I still have friends over there and talk to them and e-mail on a regular basis, they seem to be in those magical units that have no shortages of any of the stuff you identify. I had 2 of my students just leave 2 months ago for their second tours. Which they VOLUNTEERED for. They loved it over there becuase of what they saw being accomplished for the Iraqi people. If you have a beef with the DAV then start calling your reps, send letters, rwrite the papers whatever you can. Help out your fellow vets and see how good it feels. Join a national lobbying group for vets. I'm a life member of the Disabled Veterans of America. One of several great groups.

"Knew we could count on you when it mattered" So to answer your question, yes I will, yes I do and Yes I will continue to do so.
