Where did I lose control??

DO you suffer from TMIM?? (Too Much Instant Messaging?)

I was wondering today as I stared at my Trillian Software window, where did I lose control? Looking at it I realized I have a IM account on AIM, IRC, AOL, MSN, IRC and Yahoo. OMG why? Now I have program that lets me run all of them in one interface. Thank goodness.

Then why do I have the five accounts? I tried one then the other and found that they all worked in different ways. I liked some things about one and not some on others. Then I found my friends all used different IM’s and so I had to have accounts in all the different IM programs. I hated it. I had to run several at the same time and see who was where and when. What a hassle. Then I found Trillian and BAM all in one place all in one interface. I love it.

I was also wondering when looking at Trillian, how many other people have multiple IM accounts? And if so do you have a program like Trillian that puts them all together or do you have several open at the same time? BTW here are my IM names in case you do and want a IM chat sometime.. LOL, when Im not teaching, out of the office or catching bad guys.

My problem is that I can never remeber my ICQ number and AIM password because I never use them. I realized that when I went on to try Trillian and thought I'd add them old IM accounts. I mostly use MSN these days.

So is there one account that's become your favorite? I sense a good follow-up review here: What's the pros and cons of each, and are there some you recommend above others?

I've been a proud Trillian user since version .74 (i think thats the number). I use MSN the most lately and its weird because i use to only use AIM...my how times change. I use MSN th emost because a good share of my friends are on it. Anyway, for those of you who dont have Trillian or are curious to know more about it, here's the link:

I use Yahoo, MSN and Skype. Most of people i have business with use Yahoo, most of my friends use MSN and I use Skype for talking and making phone calls.

Luckily I work for a big corp that does not allow any IM at all so I never got into IMing friends and what not.

I look at it now as an annoyance more than anything. I guess i just don't enjoy talking to people that much to warrant it. Email works fine for me.

I don't even have the mailbox set up on my cell phone. If friends can't reach me on the cell then they better try back later

I primarily use ICQ through a Linux program called GAIM which is a Linux IM client that works in a similar manner as Trillian in that it handles multiple IM account protocols. I've never really had a need to set up accounts on the others. I think I set up a Yahoo account a few weeks ago so I could chat with Dharma about something, but I don't even remember the account details now.

Most everyone I know and chat with uses ICQ so it's really all I need, GAIM is the best Linux ICQ client I've found and just happens to handle all the others as well.

I am a trillian user and proud of it.

I had to really.
Some family uses AIM (through AOL), work uses Windows Messanger (with SIP), Most friends use MSN. I almost never use Yahoo anymore. And I haven't used ICQ since they were bought by AOL. I use Trillian for Stardock IRC on kits without SDC and on Unbuntu (my Linux distro of late) I use Gaim. I use AdiumX on the Mac (tied into Growl - an awsome application!)

I'd use Trillian for everything, only it's not as good as mIRC on IRC.

I use Trillian. I use it for my MSN and ICQ accounts and once in awhile for chatting on IRC. Speaking of Trillian it would be nice to see some skins for the program here at WC.

I've also used Trillian since it's early beta versions and have found it one of the most useful tools I've had.
I used to game a lot (Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, BF 1942, etc) and found that I needed to communicate with friends on almost every other IM, so I relished having Trillian since I didn't have to run separate programs.
Now-a-days I don't game much and I really only use MSN (and e-messenger.net at work) and Skype but I still have contacts on the other networks so I still keep Trillian around. I wonder if they'll integrate Skype into it...?

Isn't Skype a VoIP? If so, thats just voice chat and Trillian Pro supports audio chat.

I use EasyMessage (http://www.easymessage.net/), which allows me to type in all the different accounts I need to reach everyone with different servers. The program is very easy on resources, just plain and simple IM.

I remember trying Trillian back in 2000 when it was .5 or something - didn't work so well. But when I became like most with friends on multiple IM platforms I tried it again at .74 - it really worked well. There is only one feature that isn't supported (not even in the pro version) coverence chats. Having multiple people in the conversation at one time is very helpful, but everytime I try it Trillian says that my medium doesn't support it. All my co-workers are MSN and I know that MSN supports it. Must just be a limitation in the current version.

I really love all the extra stuff that the others don't support - like my being able to rename the display names of my contacts. I don't want to see ar56ski44 when it is really "mom". And the buddy icons that can be any size and it will scale them for me is nice too.

One of my favorite apps - right behind OB, WB, and DX.

@Einstein: I am not quite sure if it's the same... you can group chat on MSN by inviting people. I.e. open a chat with one person, then use the menu "Actions->Invite" or if the skin has it, the invite button... works fine here. But I haven't used the original MSN in years, so I don't know if you're talking about something totally different

I use Trillian Pro btw, which does have a different featureset than the free version.

@original post: I do have more than one IM account, but really only a handful of people on MSN, and maybe one on each other medium. The absolutely only reason I use Trillian is that it has all these nifty plugins which make it far more than just an IM app for me.

Oh btw... the one medium I don't often use it for is IRC - Trillians IRC support sucks.
