This is my personal view and comments on the issues and events that I feel a need to talk about or express my view. You don't have to agree, but lets carry on a adult, discussion and maybe you will see it the right way, mine. ;)

I got an e-mail today from one of my former students and thought I would share some of it with you all.. it tells the story better than I can..

Commander(Chris)Wagoner,
Hey sir long time no talk and all. In case you can't recall from the e-mail address, I'm Steve Kane BRC #82, and I also had Criminalistics with you at Santa Fe's main campus.
Anyways, it has been a while and I wanted to see how you were doing. I assume you're still at the academy and all, and I hope things are going well with the recruits.
....snipped for personal info ..., and It was on the month of my mobilization for Afghanistan. Yea, I'm here in the desert for about eight months. I had actually already gotten out of the Guard, but my unit deployed and I felt a level of guilt and worry about some of the new guys that had just joined the unit and were now deploying. Kids, sir, they damn well looked like a bunch of ten year olds with M-4's. ha-ha I must be getting old if they're looking that young to me now. However, I knew the unit needed good people, and I couldn't turn my back on those guys. I'm not telling you anything that you don't know or haven't felt.

Well, life here isn't too bad. We conduct two patrols a day in our area of operation, and an occasional convoy escort as well. Enemy contact, as of now, is considered light. Mostly IED contact at this time. Not too many Taliban assholes like to fight in the winter due to cold weather exposure. There have been several attacks on our allies though, I'm afraid. We lost a German soldier two weeks ago to an IED, and a couple of Norwegians down south around Kandahar as well. We continue to hand them their asses on a regular basis though.(excuse the jargon) Their cause and support are at an near end, and we are only too happy to help them meet Alah once and for all.

Well he sounded upbeat and the pics were of him and his .50. mount. Gotta love them .50's.

Stay safe Steve see ya soon..

It is nice to see news from real people instead of jerks with an agenda.  I had to laugh at the old part.  What is he, about 27, 28?
