This is my personal view and comments on the issues and events that I feel a need to talk about or express my view. You don't have to agree, but lets carry on a adult, discussion and maybe you will see it the right way, mine. ;)
Maybe its because the media doesn't want us to hear about it...

Well lets see, the left leaning mass media of the US doesn't spend much time (if any) on the good things that our troops are doing in Iraq. Think we are only killing and torturing the Iraq people? Then you are ignorant and bias. Check out some of the other things going on you will not hear about:

Our men and women are trying to build a better Iraq. They are trying to help the people there and we have people here in the US like our great leaders who make statements that get our military men and women killed because they want to further their own political goals. SHAME ON YOU KENNEDY!

God Bless the USA and its Military Men and Women.

Why would the left wing US media cover these stories? That would go against the very core of their agenda. Why cloud everyone's judgement with positive news in Iraq when they (the media) can drone on about Michael Moore's "hate America" tour through Europe and how the NAACP is angry that Bush won't provide them with an easy target at a speaking engagement when they have already slandered him in every way possible. Or better yet, we can be pelted with more crap about how great Kerry and Edwards hair looks while they're telling us how much we need to embrace the UN and France after all they've done for us. When all else fails the media justs digs up another front page story about Abu Ghraib to burn off any obscure Iraq news that might leave you with a positive feeling. And don't you dare go to Fox News. They are not a member of the "supress all good news from Iraq" club and therefore not endorsed by the DNC, CNN, NPR, ABC, CBS, NBC, Washington Post, New York Times, LA Times, etc., etc.

In all seriousness.......I agree that our media is really pathetic. So many good things are happening there everyday and our troops and contractors are working so hard to make these things happen but our media could care less - unless of course, one of them gets captured and might lose his head. You can bet they will be all over that. You have to dig very deep to find anything else but It's worth the digging for me.

There was a cartoon about just this topic a couple of weeks ago in the Marine Corps Times in the "Different Views" section I think, can't find a link to it right now. It had a News Brief in progress and the speaker ran down all of the Good things that were going on, Schools, Jobs, Projects, a huge list and all the reporter from the audience reported was the latest about Abu Ghraib. Anyone who has ever been deployed knows that as soon as you set down you can expect a visit from the Chaplain looking for volunteers to help with one community project or another. In the end I guess it is one of those things, even if the news never reports a thing, we know what is going on.

Thanks ShadowWar for posting this article. As I wrote in the comments of one of your other articles, how people feel about whether going into Iraq was the right thing to do or the wrong thing shouldn't obscure the good that is being done there. It is important to see the good things. Soldiers, and all other servicemembers, make a difference. And while, for the most part, they don't crave recognition for the work they do, they do appreciate support from their country.
Thanks, again.

It's good to read about this type of news. I honestly never even considered things like this happening, what with news only of deaths and torture. Sure, the whole situation hasn't gone as well as supporters expected, but it definitely is not nearly as bad as the opposition makes it.

There are complaints about the liberal media this, the liberal media that. The information ShadowWar presents is from a media source. It must be a liberal media source then, mustn't it? Of course not, that's an exception.

I think "flip-flopper" is the term...

First, thanks for the information. But, let me ask a question: Is this what we want our servicemen and women to be doing in Iraq? I mean, aren't these good works (and make no mistake, they are good works that should be done) something others besides soldiers should be doing? Further, isn't that the reason the media (like Fox, which is certainly oriented conservative) not singing the praises of them?

Doing good is great. Would they rather get a soccer ball or not have their older brother get shot or dragged out of the house? We're foreignors and enforcing a police state, no matter how many good things we do we're still negatively effecting them all daily.

We need to get them to have their own govt ASAP (yesterday, really) and get the hell out of there.

CrispE,

Those of us in the Military are uniquely suited for providing humanitarian relief, we do it all over the world, on our precious free time. It is not just Iraq, it is every where that we go, with no strings attached. The only thing that is ever wished in return is a smile from those we help. There are very few among us that would rather shoot a bullet instead of kicking a soccer ball. I have not met any "War Mongers" in my 20 years as a US Marine, if Saddam had just left and we were told to go build Soccer fields, hospitals, and schools you would have had a huge number of willing happy construction workers. But..... When someone shoots at you for over ten years, as your imposing the will of the UN and your not allowed to fire back.... it sucks.... But..... It takes about 30 seconds for us to go from fight to build, and you will not find one of us who would rather the former.

True and God Bless You and all the American soldiers. But I would rather have you here, at home with your loved ones and people who do this work as their job in the field. You deserve not to be placed in harm's way for the delivery of humanitarian aid over a year after your mission ended. What you are doing is good, but you are worth something more than this and I don't remember in your job description "will risk life so that Iraqi children have soccer balls."

CrispE,

Actually it is, it is in each of our contracts, but it doesn't say Iraqi children, it say's all children. It is not just in Iraq that we act as ambassadors, but all over the entire globe. To include right here in the old USA. Be it "Toys for Tots" or an impromptu trip to an orphanage on the border of Thailand and Laos, or rebuilding a school in Iraq, it is what we do every day. From assistant teacher positions to raking leaves at a retirement home, it is what we do. We have the personnel and the equipment to build and help, like no one else on earth... period. Even if there was nothing going on in Iraq or Afghanistan we would be spread all over the world every day, it is our life, it is our choice. We accept the sacrifice of being away from our loved ones because we believe in what we do, but more importantly each and everyone of us will gladly give our lives so that you may never have to send yourself or your children into harms way. It is our choice.... Not to mention that helping others is a great way to ease the time till we return to our loved ones.

And don't forget it's not just the US doing these things.

Consider for example how the British troops in the south are working with the community. Relations there are so positive that we can wear berets rather than helmets (though I appreciate that the Baghdad area is more volatile).
