TIKRIT, Iraq – Local citizens played a major role in the discovery of two weapons caches near Kirkuk Dec. 17. A group of Iraqi citizens captured two suspected terrorists after observing the suspects digging up a cache. The men subdued the suspects and called the Kirkuk Joint Coordination Center, who relayed the information to a nearby patrol. Dec. 14, 2005 – Iraqi Army troops and coalition forces captured 11 insurgents and seized six caches Dec. 13 in operations southeast of Baqubah, Iraq, military officials reported today. I remember hearing ths week about the soldiers that were killed and the two or three car bombs that went off in Iraq. But what I did not hear was this week in Iraq, 526 insurgents were detained or killed and 104 weapons caches were discovered during 355 combined operations throughout the country. More than 30 percent of those operations were conducted independently by Iraqi Security Forces. But I did hear about the other stuff. Hmm wonder which shows more positive aspects of our troops....

Nov. 30, 2005 – Iraqi and U. S. forces have removed more than 4,200 mortar rounds from a major weapons cache found Nov. 27 outside of an abandoned military base near Kirkuk, Iraq, military officials reported.
